The pool
A long rectangular lap pool in Palmdale, in the hills between Ourimbah and Lisarow, with a solar cover on a roller at one end and gardens along both sides.
At around 110,000 litres, every chemical dose has to be worked out for the actual volume. A dose that suits a 50,000 litre pool would barely move the numbers here.
What I did
- 1Rolled back the solar cover.
- 2Tested the water on site and dosed the chemicals for the full 110,000 litres.
- 3Skimmed the surface, brushed the walls and vacuumed the floor.
- 4Emptied the baskets and checked the filter and equipment.
- 5Put the solar cover back on to hold the heat in and keep leaves out.
The result
Clear, blue water from end to end, which is what a big pool should look like after every visit.
Why the solar cover matters on a big pool
A cover this size keeps a lot of heat in overnight, cuts evaporation and keeps leaves out between visits. It also helps the chlorine last longer, because sunlight burns it off.
