The problem
The water was cloudy green and algae had settled on the beach entry and shallow ledges, where it shows up as dark patches on the pebble.
Freeform pools have a lot of curves and shallow areas. That's exactly where algae gets a foothold, because circulation is weakest there.
What I did
- 1Tested the water to work out the right treatment for the pool's size and condition.
- 2Treated the water to kill the algae, then brushed the walls, beach entry and ledges so the treatment reached the algae growing on the pebble.
- 3Left the filter running between visits to clear the water.
- 4On the second visit, vacuumed the dead algae off the floor and ledges, brushed again and re-tested the water.
The result
After the second visit the water was clear, with the pebble floor and beach entry visible from the edge of the pool.
Freeform pools need brushing, not just chemicals
Algae clings to textured pebble in the shallow, low-flow parts of a freeform pool, and chemicals alone won't shift it. Brushing is part of every Premium Full Service visit for exactly this reason.
